Sjanger og fortellerteknikk i Torborg Nedreaas` "Kvinnlinger I" (1945)

Sammendrag:

I 1945 debuterte Torborg Nedreaas med novellesamlinga Bak skapet står øksen. Novellesamlinga har en hverdagslig innfallsvinkel til krigen og tyskertøsmotivet. Tyskertøsmotivet var et kontroversielt tema, som var skambelagt i private og offentlige sfærer etter krigen. En av novellene som handler om tyskertøsmotivet i denne novellesamlinga er «Kvinnlinger I».

«Kvinnlinger I» handler om en jentegjeng og deres okkupasjonshverdag. Novella starter med en klasseromssituasjon, hvor jentenes lektor er brennende opptatt av landets frihet. Deretter får vi bli med jentene på togturen hjem. Hovedpersonen Margrethe har fått menstruasjon og er dårlig på hjemveien. Togturen byr på et spenningsfylt møte mellom Margrethe og en tysk soldat, hvor møtet setter fart på følelser og et brennende begjær for fienden.

Formålet med denne bacheloroppgava vil være å gjøre en novelleanalyse av «Kvinnlinger I». Gjennom analysen blir det undersøkt og drøftet hvordan Nedreaas benytter sjanger og fortellerteknikken til å formidle kvinners tilværelse under krigen. Oppgava vil omfatte både en teoridel av novellesjangeren og en analysedel. I den første delen av oppgava blir det presentert en teoridel om novella oppover historien, med vekt på Johann Wolfgang Goethes og Søren Baggesens novelleteori. I oppgavas andre del utføres novelleanalysen, med bruk av analysemodellen i boka Novellen. Teori og analyse (2016) av Annemette Hejlsted. Elementene fra analysemodellen som vektlegges i analysen er karakterene, fortelleren, plotet og modus. I konklusjon av oppgava trekkes det fram at vi gjennom novellas sjanger og fortellerteknikk får innsikt i kvinnenes tilværelse som et uforsonlig verdensbilde, hvor verdier og atferd testes i møtet med tyske soldater.

Abstract:

In 1945, Torborg Nedreaas debuted with the short story collection Bak skapet står øksen (Behind the cupboard is the axe). The short story collection takes an everyday-like outlook on the war and the «German Girl»-motif. The «German Girl»-motif was a controversial topic and was shameful in both private and public spheres after the war. One of the short stories using the «German Girl»-motif in this short story collection is «Kvinnlinger I».

«Kvinnlinger I» is a about a group of girls and their life during the occupation. The short story begins in a classroom, where the girls` teacher is passionately concerned with the country`s freedom. Afterwards, we follow the girls on their train journey home. The protagonist Margrethe has gotten her period and is not feeling well on the journey. The train ride offers an exciting meeting between Margrethe and a German soldier, spurring feelings and a burning desire for the enemy.

This bachelor`s thesis aims to analyse the short story “Kvinnlinger I”. The analysis will explore and discuss how Nedreaas uses genre and storytelling techniques to convey the life of women during the occupation. The thesis contains a section about the theory of the short story genre and a section concerning the analysis. The first section of the thesis presents the theory of the short story throughout history, focusing on Johann Wolfgang Goethe and Søren Baggesen`s theories of short stories. The thesis` second section concerns the analysis, using the model of analysis from the book Novellen. Teori & analyse (Short story. Theory & analysis) (2016) by Annemette Hejlsted. Elements of the model of analysis which are emphasised are the analysis of the characters, the storyteller, the plot and the mode. The thesis` conclusion highlights that through the short story`s genre and storytelling techniques, the readers get insight into the women`s lives as an irreconcilable world view, where values and behaviour gets tested in meeting with German soldiers.
