Å jobbe med mennesker utenfor utdanning og arbeid i grupper - En kvalitativ studie av karriereveilederes erfaringer

Abstract

Masteroppgaven undersøker hvordan karriereveileder opplever å jobbe med mennesker utenfor utdanning og arbeid i gruppetilbud. Problemstillingen for oppgaven er «Hva opplever karriereveiledere som viktig i møte med mennesker utenfor utdanning og arbeid, og hvordan opplever de at de kan bruke gruppen som ressurs for dette?». Denne har jeg forsøkt å besvare gjennom intervju med fire karriereveiledere ved tre ulike gruppetilbud. Intervjuene ble transkribert og analysert med tematisk analyse som tilnærming. Arbeidet med analysen resulterte i to hovedtema: «Veileder i møte med gruppen» og «Funksjoner ved gruppen». «Veileder i møte med gruppen» innebærer underkategoriene «By på seg selv», «Se den enkelte» og «Jobbe med individet i gruppen». Disse viser til det veileder opplever som viktig i møte med deltagerne og hvordan de jobber med det. «Funksjoner ved gruppen» innebærer underkategoriene «Gruppen som sted for mestring» og om «Gruppen som motivasjon for endring», og viser til hvordan veilederne opplever gruppen som ressurs i arbeidet. Videre er funnene fra analysen diskutert i lys av teorier om gruppeveiledning, veileders rolle i gruppeveiledning og læringsteori, og sett på hvordan disse funnene utgjør en større helhet av veiledernes erfaringer.

This master's thesis examines how a career counselor experiences working with people outside of education and work in group-based career guidance services. The research question for the thesis is "What do career counselors find important in meeting people outside of education and work, and how do they feel that they can use the group as a resource in their work?". I have tried to answer this through interviews with four career counselors working at three different group-based career guidance services. The interviews were transcribed and analyzed using thematic analysis. The work with the analysis resulted in two main themes: “The counselor in meeting with the group” and “Functions of the group”. The counselor’s role in the group" includes the subcategories "Sharing of yourself", "See the individual" and "Working with the individual in the group". These refer to what the supervisor experiences as important in meeting the participants and how they work with these issues. "Functions of the group" entails the subcategories "The group as a place for mastery experiences" and “The group as a motivation for change” and refers to how the supervisors experience the group as a resource in their work. Furthermore, the findings from the analysis are discussed in the light of theories about group counseling, the counselor’s role in group counseling, and learning theories. The findings are also discussed as how they constitute a larger whole of the supervisors' experiences.
