This thesis contains a comparative analysis and a psychological reading of the Henrik Ibsen drama "Hedda Gabler" (1890) and the Vigdis Hjorth novel "Henrik Falk" (2019). Hjorth’s novel is based on Ibsen’s drama, but set to our days and has a male protagonist. In the thesis I explore how Toril Moi’s understanding of the term finitude can be utilized to achieve a better understanding of the protagonists Hedda and Henrik, and in extension of this, which fundamental human conditions we must acknowledge in according to what Moi considers “our human condition”.
