dc.description.abstract | Denne masteroppgaven undersøker den digitale audiovisuelle teknologiens dramaturgiske
potensialer i scenekunst.
krigen i Ukraina.
dc.description.abstract | This master thesis explores the dramaturgical potentialities of the digital audio-visual
technology in performance. An experimental, theoretical work that concentrates on
constructing a methodology by reconceptualizing a dramaturgical perspective. A perspective
constructed trough discursive analysis by which the historical and theoretical relations between
technology, performance and dramaturgy is discussed, and then put to a test trough analysis of
two performances. Namely 03:08:38 Tilstander av Unntak by Tore Vagn Lid and Transiteatret-
Bergen, and Culpa! i Unntakstilstand by Taro Vestøl Cooper and Mine Nilay Yalcin.
Through the orientation of theoretical and historical discourses of technology and
performance, the work continues its reconstruction using the theoretical, dramaturgical
framework of Janek Szatkowskis as a base. It then restructures the framework using Karen
Barads agential realism combined with rhizome and nomad theory by Gilles Deleuze and Felix
Guattari. Analytical tools by Michael Eigtved supplies the performance analysis.
The experiment is engaged by questions of technological implements in performance, its affect
in the arts, and by that our society as well. A relationship which, for the last two years, has
penetrated our social lives with a greater strength than ever before during the COVID-19
pandemic, and which in this very minute is broadcasting news of a cruel war not far away.
In understanding dramaturgy as a communicative strategy, it has been the works ambition
to focus on the strategies laid to rest by our use of the digital audio-visual technology.
As a way of analysing dramaturgies, the reconceptualized perspective points to certain
potentials through a process of awareness of the technological discourses. An awareness
brought forth by examinations of its material and reflexive diffractions. An examination that
points to the performativity of the technology, its effects and affects. It argues that its
dispositions of senses establish interfaces, or intra-faces, that either expand or reduce the field
of dramaturgical possibilities. Sensuous dispositions that, in a strictly material way, manifests
itself through either an amputation or transformation of our perceptions. Manifestations that, in
other words, seems to dictate our imaginative limits to certain degrees. Findings which engage
further questions of the digital audio-visual technology and its dramaturgical implications in
the arts and its politics as a tool of storytelling in the 21st century.
