This thesis investigates what happens to hybrid texts in translation. It looks at the Norwegian and Spanish translations of Julia Alvarez's novel "In the Time of the Butterflies". It seeks to investigate wheather the hybrid textual elements, codeswitching, would be preserved or neutralized in the process of translation. Finally looking at how these translations might have changed the reader's active engagement in reading the text.nb_NO
