This study is a bachelor’s thesis written as part of a bachelor's degree at NTNU Business School. The study is both a profitability analysis and a strategic analysis of the company Hunvik & Co AS in the period from 2017 to 2020. The purpose is to analyze the profitability based on both quantitative data from proff.no and qualitative data collected through dialogue with CEO Martin Ihlen Hunvik. The combination of quantitative and qualitative data has provided a deeper understanding of the company’s profitability throughout the period and has strengthened our study.
In the first chapter we start with a presentation of our focus on the study, before we continue with some history regarding Hunvik & Co AS and its industry as well as a competing company. Furthermore, we continue with a theory chapter including both key financial figures and the strategic tools used in the study. Then we reflect on issues regarding the research design and our data collection. In the fourth chapter we perform both an accounting analysis and a strategic analysis, as well as a short comparison of a few key financial figures with a competing company. We do this to get an even better understanding of how the profitability have developed for Hunvik & Co AS. Lastly, we will review the development and the following consequences. We will also draw a conclusion to why and present some possibilities for the company further.
The accounting analysis shows that Hunvik & Co AS has maintained a good liquidity during the period, as well as a slight improvement in their financing. The solvency has improved considerably, which in turn improves their ability to withstand future losses. Our most important finding is however related to the substantial improvement in profitability throughout the period. When looking at the strategic analysis we can assume that the growth in profitability is due to the company’s focus on service and quality, as well as their good customer relations. Lastly, unknown threats may appear, leading to worsen the position Hunvik & Co AS’s has in the industry. If such a situation should appear, it would be important for the company to quickly adapt and seize opportunities as they arise.
