This study summarizes four representative failure criteria which could be applied in ship impact analysis. Robustness of these criteria are examined by simulating penetration tests of stiffened panels as well as the double hull structure. The results show that all the investigated failure criteria produce a wide scatter in ductile fracture prediction when varying mesh sizes are applied, and the predictive capacities of these criteria are variant in different validation cases. Based on it, discussions are carried out with emphasis given on the fracture mechanisms of different structural components as well as the crack propagation prediction.
