The Nordkapp Basin is situated in the southwestern Barents Sea, Norway and was formed by the opening of the Norwegian-Greenland Sea and the Eurasia Basin. The Nordkapp Basin contains several salt structures but the distribution of petroleum system components is poorley understood. Using 3D seismic data and a well log located in the study area, this thesis studies the facies distribution and paleogeogrpahy of the minibasins formed by the salt structures. The Snadd Formation is divided into three sequences based on flooding surfaces. These flooding surfaces are the lateral continuation of unconformities near the salt diapirs and form as the result of rapid subsidence in relation to salt movement. The facies making up the sequences were delineated from seismic reflection characteristics and well log data, specifically gamma ray log response. The Snadd Formation was deposited during passive growth of the salt structures and this affected the depositional evolution. Rapid subsidence caused by salt evacuation led to fluiviodeltaic progradation and the deposition of channel sandstone bodies. The fluviodeltaic progradation is sourced from the south-east.
