The Master thesis analyses the international involvement in Bosnia and Herzegovina over the past 20 years, asking the question of why the International Community failed in their efforts to construct a democratic, stable and prosperous BiH? In answering the question, the thesis analyses official documents and statements in order to see if the intervening parties inhibited an adequate understanding of the specific situation in the country. A thorough analysis of what the main international actors focused on in the democratization process is also conducted. The paper concludes that misinterpreting the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina prior to the intervention led to a prolonged stay for the international actors. Additionally, the thesis finds the focus areas of the main players to be pre-determined, and their unwillingness to adapt to the situation ultimately leads to a stagnation of the democratization process.nb_NO
