Gloria Anzaldúa: La doble amenaza del racismo y el sexismo hacia las chicanas viviendo entre México y estados Unidos

Abstract

Resumen:

Gloria Anzaldúa, nacida como sexta generación chicana, tenía y todavía tiene una voz importante para las chicanas y su lucha feminista. Contribuyó al creciente movimiento chicano en los años de 1970 y 1980, con la publicación de sus libros This Bridge Called My Back en 1981 y Borderlands/La Frontera en 1987. Abrió una nueva concepción de la frontera, escribiendo desde la perspectiva de los llamados “borderlands”, entre México y Estados Unidos. En este aspecto, Anzaldúa criticó el tratamiento hacia la mujer chicana tanto en su propia cultura chicana, como en la cultura estadounidense blanca. La doble amenaza del racismo y el sexismo llegaría a ser muy importante para Anzaldúa en su anhelo por la igualdad y respeto mutuo en la sociedad.

Abstract:

Gloria Anzaldúa, born as sixth-generation Chicano, was, and still is, an important voice for the Chicanos and their feminist movement. She contributed to the rising of the Chicano movement with the publication of her books This Bridge Called My Back in 1981 and Borderlands/La Frontera in 1987. With her literature, she for opened for a new conception of the border, writing from the perspective of the “borderlands”, in particular between Mexico and the United States. In this context, Anzaldúa criticized the treatment of the Chicano women both in her own culture, but also in the white American culture. The double threat of racism and sexism became very important in Anzaldúa’s work towards a society including equality and mutual respect across differences in culture and ethnicities.
