dc.description.abstract
The public perception on Ernesto Che Guevara seems to have been affected by the political atmosphere surrounding him. In many cases the left idolizes him, viewing him as a hero of the proletariat, whilst the right vilifies him, viewing him as a ruthless warlord. The debate over Che Guevara’s legacy and doings continues to resurge to this day more than 50 years after his death in 1967. The result of this has become a polarization where the complexity of Che Guevara has been occulted behind political narratives and the lack of seeing him from a more complete perspective. In contrast to the political narratives of the right and left, Guevara was not exclusively a hero of the proletariat or a ruthless warlord, he was both.
