dc.description.abstract | This thesis contains confidential information regarding Mørenot Aquaculture´s objectives,
internal resources, and strategy. An agreement regarding confidentiality was made to preserve
the firm´s competitiveness.
The purpose of this thesis was to explore global expansion in the aquaculture industry. This
was done by performing a case study in collaboration with Mørenot aquaculture AS during their
process of a further entrance in the Mediterranean area. Studying this case, provided a overview
of the opportunities for Mørenot Aquaculture in international markets. This thesis studied the
level of industry globality and Mørenot Aquaculture´s preparedness for internationalization.
This was done to be able to investigate how they could succeed with a further entrance to the
Mediterranean area.
The thesis applied qualitative in-depth interviews in the form of seven interviews with key
informants from different formal positions and geographical location, thus collected data
material highlighted different aspects of the case. The results were analyzed by building
explanations and comparing empirical patterns. Secondary data such as internal documents and
report were applied to supplement the findings, hence strengthen the results. This thesis has an
exploratory research design and some of the findings could be interesting to study in a follow
up study.
Overall, the findings indicates that the presence of industrialized owners and more strict
regulations towards sustainability and ESG may accelerate the pace of internationalization
within the industry, increasing the level of industry globality. The findings imply that that the
industry is developing towards becoming more global, and seeking strategic alliances were seen
as a sufficient way to enhance success entering the Greek market. As Turkey were seen as more
distant, suggestions were to entering Turkey using direct export, then expand their operations
at a later stage. | |
