This thesis contains confidential information regarding Mørenot Aquaculture´s objectives, internal resources, and strategy. An agreement regarding confidentiality was made to preservethe firm´s competitiveness.
The purpose of this thesis was to explore global expansion in the aquaculture industry. Thiswas done by performing a case study in collaboration with Mørenot aquaculture AS during theirprocess of a further entrance in the Mediterranean area. This thesis studied thelevel of industry globality and Mørenot Aquaculture´s preparedness for internationalization. This was done to be able to investigate how they could succeed with a further entrance to theMediterranean area.
The thesis applied qualitative in-depth interviews in the form of seven interviews with keyinformants from different formal positions and geographical location, thus collected datamaterial highlighted different aspects of the case. The results were analyzed by buildingexplanations and comparing empirical patterns. Secondary data such as internal documents andreport were applied to supplement the findings, hence strengthen the results. This thesis has anexploratory research design and some of the findings could be interesting to study in a followup study.
Overall, the findings indicates that the presence of industrialized owners and more strictregulations towards sustainability and ESG may accelerate the pace of internationalizationwithin the industry, increasing the level of industry globality. The findings imply that that theindustry is developing towards becoming more global, and seeking strategic alliances were seenas a sufficient way to enhance success entering the Greek market. As Turkey were seen as moredistant, suggestions were to entering Turkey using direct export, then expand their operationsat a later stage.
