Ungdom, seksualitet og samtykke

Abstract

Ustrakt tilgang til sosiale medier og nye sosiale plattformer gir ungdom lett tilgang til informasjon om seksualitet. Dagens ungdom har fått nye kunnskapsrike og identitetsskapende arenaer og samfunnet, skolen og undervisere bør holde tritt med utviklingen. Seksualitet er i stigende fokus og ungdommene etterspør mer kunnskap fra de voksne. Formålet med denne studien er å utforske hvilke tanker og meninger ungdom har rundt seksualitet, seksuelle signaler og seksuell utforskning. Videre vil den også se på ungdommenes forhold til seksualundervisning, samt utforske hvilke holdninger de har til en eventuell samtykkelov i Norge. Denne tematikken utforskes gjennom problemstillingen: Hvilke tanker har ungdom rundt seksuell utforskning og tolkning av seksuelle signaler, og hvordan kan dette, samt deres egne erfaringer fra undervisningen, belyse eventuelle utfordringer rundt seksualundervisning? Hva mener de om en eventuell samtykkelov i Norge og hva den vil gjøre med den seksuelle situasjonen? Oppgaven bygger på skript- og strategiteori, samt tidligere forskning på områder som seksuelle signaler, misforståelser i seksuelle situasjoner og seksualundervisning. For å belyse problemstillingen har det blitt benyttet et kvalitativt forskningsdesign med semistrukturerte kvalitative intervjuer som metode for datainnsamling. Det har blitt gjennomført fire fokusgruppeintervjuer med ungdommer fra 16 og til 17 år, og videre har det blitt gjort en tematisk innholdsanalyse av datamaterialet for å avdekke det dypere meningsinnholdet i ungdommenes opplevelser av tematikken. Analysen deles opp i fire ulike bolker med temaene flørtefasen, intimsfæren, seksualundervisning og samtykke. Gjennom drøftingen blir det synlig hvordan ungdommenes oppfatning av seksuell utforskning og tolkning av seksuelle signaler er i takt med tidligere forskning hvor gutten er initiativtakeren, jenta er tilbakeholden og forsiktig og misforståelser kan oppstå og føre til overtramp i den seksuelle situasjonen. De ønsker seksualundervisning med økt normalisering og relevans og kompetente og profesjonelle undervisere. Majoriteten av ungdommene er positive til en samtykkelov i Norge, men ser utfordringer med hvordan den skal fungere i praksis og hvordan den kan virke både negativt og positivt inn på den seksuelle utforskningen.

The increasing access to social media and new social platforms gives young people access to new knowledge and new impressions. Youths have new informational and identity-creating arenas, and society, schools and educators should keep up with ongoing developments. Sexuality is in increasingly in focus and young people demand more knowledge on the subject. The purpose of this study is to explore the thoughts and opinions of young people about sexuality, sexual cues and sexual exploration. Furthermore, it will also look at the young people's relationship to sex education, as well as explore what attitudes they have towards a possible law of consent in Norway. This topic is explored through the research question: What thoughts do young people have about sexual exploration and interpretation of sexual cues, and how can this and their own perceptions of sex education illuminate today's sexual education? What do they think about a possible consent law in Norway and what it will do with the sexual situation? The thesis builds upon script and strategy theory, as well as previous research in areas around such as sexual signals, misunderstandings in sexual situations and sex education. A qualitative research design with semi-structured qualitative interviews has been employed to collect the empirical data. The research has conducted four group interviews with young people between the ages of 16 and 17 and analysed through a thematic content analysis to uncover the deeper meaning in the young people's experiences on the topic. The analysis is divided into four different sections with the themes of flirtation phase, the intimate sphere, sex education and consent. The thematic reflections address the young people's thoughts and opinions in each section. Through the discussion, it is visible how the young people's perception of sexual exploration and interpretation of sexual signals is in line with previous research where the boy is the initiator, the girl is restrained and careful and misunderstandings can arise and lead to unpleasant events in the sexual situation. The youths wish for a better sex education with increased normalization and relevance, and competent and professional educators. The majority of young people are positive about a law of consent in Norway, but reflect around the challenges of how it will work in practice and how it can have both a negative and positive effect on sexual exploration.
