Rusavhengighet - rusens sosiale funksjon

Abstract

Denne oppgaven forsøker å gi et bilde på hvordan vår sosiale verden er med på å legge føringer for bruk av rusmidler. Jeg ser på sosiale faktorer slik som felleskap og identitet, og hvordan disse påvirker individet både positivt og negativt. Oppgaven bruker allerede eksisterende litteratur på området for å belyse tematikken. Sosial kontakt er et grunnleggende fenomen for alle mennesker, og for mennesker med en rusavhengighet kan sosiale forhold stå i veien for en rusfri hverdag. Dette kan for eksempel være vennskap innenfor en subkultur, hvor bruken av rusmidler er limet i selve felleskapet. Subkulturen kan være med på å gi en følelse av tilhørighet, en følelse rusavhengige kan kjenne noe begrenset til samfunnet for øvrig. Samfunnet og sosiale felleskap er også med på å forme vår identitet, hvor ulike roller vil variere ut i fra sosial kontekst. For å belyse denne tematikken tar jeg i bruk teoretikerne Erving Goffman og Pierre Bourdieu. Gjennom å bruke deres begreper under analysen av de kildene som oppgaven bygger på, viser jeg til hvordan det ikke nødvendigvis er den rusfrie hverdagen som gir de beste levekårene, da man kanskje må ofre andre sosiale faktorer i livet.

This paper aims to delineate the understanding of how the social world contributes to drug and alcohol addiction. My focus will be on factors such as social groups and identity, to examine how they affect the individual both in a positive and negative way. The thesis uses thematic literature review within the field to shed a light on the topic. Social contact is a fundamental part of all human life, and it can be hard to maintain a life without drugs and alcohol for those who has friends and other contacts within a subculture consistent with substance use. The subgroup can give you a sense of belonging. The feeling of belonging can be seldom for people addicted to drugs and alcohol, whereas they in some way can feel outdistanced from society in general. Society and social groups do take part in shaping your identity, and a set of roles will vary as with the social context. In this paper, I discuss literature on the social aspects of drug and alcohol addiction following the theorist Erving Goffman and Pierre Bourdieu. Through their theories it will show how a life without drugs and alcohol isn’t necessarily the best way of life, considering the fact of leaving their social environment, for example.
