Introduction / Background: The topic of care and trauma-conscious care is knowledge that it is relevant that a social worker has. Among other things, social workers can work at a child welfare institution, where children who may have been exposed to traumatic events live. The word "trauma" can be understood as a mental wound or as a subjective reaction to a potentially traumatic event that exceeds the person's mental integration capacity. A child or adolescent may be exposed to a potentially traumatic event without the child perceiving this as traumatic.
Purpose: The purpose of the assignment is to focus on the competence and knowledge a social worker has, which is relevant for providing good care in encounters with children and young people who have been exposed to trauma.
Method: The method of the assignment is a literature study.
Result: The five articles used gave the impression that security, relationship and emotion regulation are fundamental in the work with traumatized children and young people. These three topics were discussed in the thesis: security, relationship and emotion regulation
Conclusion: Security, relationship and emotion regulation are fundamental factors in trauma-conscious care and in work with traumatized children and young people. As an environmental therapist, it is important to create a safe contact with the traumatized child, this means being respectful, creating trust, acknowledging and being sensitive to the child's needs.
