dc.description.abstract | This master’s thesis assesses the FN and UKIP’s Eurosceptic claims during the 2014 European Parliament elections. This study argues that, while they are both characterized as strong Eurosceptic right-wing parties, their Eurosceptic narratives present variations.
Through a qualitative content analysis of the two parties’ electoral manifesto, this research seeks to fill a gap in the literature on party-based Euroscepticism by presenting that strong Euroscepticism can much more complex.
Furthermore, my research findings indicate that strong Eurosceptic narrative is multifaced and that the degree of Euroscepticism is influenced by political, social, and economic factors. These findings provide insights into party-based Euroscepticism and its typology, as well as the shaping of parties’ campaign strategy. | |
