This thesis provides a comparative analysis of Stephen King's novel "The Shining" (1977) and two adaptations of it - the homonymous film (1980) directed by Stanley Kubrick, and the three-part miniseries "Stephen King's The Shining" directed by Mick Garris and written by King himself for the American television network ABC in 1997. The paper examines the representations of the topic of "family" in these works and discusses subtopics such as marriage and parenthood.en
