Sense and Sensibility; from Novel to the Big Screen

Abstract

Prosessen med å tilpasse et litteraturverk til en storskjerm er ofte en lang og komplisert prosedyre. Det innebærer mange trinn vi som publikum sjeldent tenker over, og tar for gitt. Når litteraturarbeidet det dreier seg om er Jane Austens Sense and Sensibility; hvordan ble romanen laget som en film? Ved å analysere hvert aspekt av Emma Thompsons prisbelønte manus og dagbok og sammenligne den med Austens roman; hvordan ble Sense and Sensibility både laget som både en roman og film? For å finne ut dette har jeg sett på maunset, prosessen med å skrive manuset, og filmingen av filmen. The process of adapting a work of literature onto the big screen is often a long and complicated procedure. It involves many steps we as an audience seldom think about, and take for granted. When the work of literature in question is Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility; how did the novel come to exist as a film? By analysing every aspect of Emma Thompson's award winning screenplay and on-set diary and comparing it to Austen's novel; how did Sense and Sensibility get to exist as both a novel and a film? To figure this out, I have looked at the screenplay, screenwriting process, and the shooting of the film. How did the story go from paper to movie screen; how was the film made and is it a worthy component to its original?
