Abstract

I - Sammendrag

Innledning

Igjennom menneskehetens tid på jorden har vi som art evolvert våre mange teknologier. Eksterne utfordringer rundt min egen interne evolveringsteknikk, -i mitt egendefinerte bachelorprosjekt, inspirerte meg inn i et dypdykk for å studere dette temaet nærmere. Igjennom vitebegjær og den akademiske muligheten i bachelorprosjektet, har jeg forsøkt å identifisere de bakenforliggende premissene for hvordan vår teknologi skapes inn i vår virkelighet. Med et ambisiøst mål om å forsøke løse denne utfordringen tok jeg fatt på oppgaven. Jeg håper at jeg samtidig har klart å presentere innholdet på en slik måte, at ulike mennesker, innenfor ulike fagfelt, kan relatere seg til min analyse og konklusjon, og at mitt arbeid kan være av allmennyttig karakter for ettertiden.

Bakgrunn

Bakgrunnen for studien er som nevnt, utfordringer i utviklingsprosessen for min egen teknologi. Utfordringene var flere og innebar eksterne krav til meg som teknologiutvikler. Dette gjaldt transparens rundt idé- og produkt i møte med parallelle dokumentasjonskrav, beslutninger rundt mitt produkt, og manglede eksisterende litteratur. I sum bidro disse utfordringene til at jeg ønsket å identifisere en varig løsning på mine utfordringer, slik at andre mennesker kunne unngå å havne i samme situasjon som meg selv.

Metode

I mitt valg av metode, valgte jeg å ta utgangspunkt i Alan R. Hevners forskningsmodell: "Design Science Research Cycle", som hovedmodell for studien. Jeg valgte videre å identifisere teori som kunne bidra til mer kunnskap innenfor verdier og beslutninger. Som empirisk grunnlag valgte jeg å videre å foreta en intensiv case-studie, hovedsakelig i å foreta en kvalitativ analyse av Walter Isaacsons autoriserte biografi av Apples medgrunnlegger- og leder, Steve Jobs. I tillegg samlet jeg inn kvalitative data om NTNUs visjon og verdier som anvendes henholdsvis i metodekapitlet og i analysekapitlet. I analysen sammenstiller jeg informasjonen fra studien, og foretar diskusjoner rundt utfordringer- og løsninger i teknologievolvering og -teknologi.

Resultat

Som resultater presenteres hovedsakelig funnene fra den kvalitative analysen av Walter Isaacsons biografi av Steve Jobs. Dette gjøres i form av en presentasjon av fire ulike diagrammer som er utviklet igjennom analysen. Det henvises også til et femte vedlegg fra analysen som underbygger resultatene fra analysekapitlet. Disse er også vedleggene er vedlagt bakerst i denne rapporten.

Konklusjon

I konklusjonen konkluderes det positivt i forhold til problemstillingene som blir presentert i kapittel 1.3. Konklusjonen bekrefter eksistensen av de to fenomenene som også er presentert på forsiden av denne studien: "verdiorientert evolveringsteknikk" og "verdiorientert teknologi". Valgene av begreper er gjort av meg. Begrepene introduseres i kapittel 3.1.

I - Abstract

Introduction

/ Throughout the human time on earth we have as a specie evolved our many technologies. Externally challenges around my own evolving-technique inspired me into the abyss, to study this topic closer. Throughout inquisitiveness and the academical opportunity in the bachelor thesis, I have tried to identify the underlying premises behind how our technology is created into our reality. With an ambiguous goal about to try to solve this challenge, started the journey. At the same time, I hope I have managed to present the containment in such way that different people, at different levels and fields, could relate to both my analysis and my conclusion, and that my work could serve for a public utility, for the posterity.

Background

The background for this study is as mentioned, challenges in the developing process of my own technology. There was several, and they included external claims to me as a creative developer of technology. This apply to transparency around the idea- and product facing simultaneously documentation claims, decisions on my product, and a lack of literature at the field. In total all these challenges contributed to that I wished to identify a consistent solution to my challenges, in a way such that other human beings could avoid finding themselves in the same situation such as myself.

Method

In the choose of method, I decided to pick Alan R. Hevner´s scientific model: "Design Science Research Cycle", as a base model for the study. I so chose to identify theory that could contribute for more knowledge in values and decisions. As empiric base, I so chose to go for an intensive case-study, and do a qualitative analysis of Walter Isaacson´s authorized biography of the co-founder and leader of Apple, Steve Jobs. In addition to this I collected qualitative data about the NTNU´s vision and values, as I´m using respectively in the methods-chapter and in the analysis-chapter. In my analysis, I´m assembling the information from the whole study, and make discussions about some challenges and solutions in evolving-techniques- and technology.

Result

For the results, I am basically presenting the findings from the qualitative analysis of Walter Isaacson´s biography of Steve Jobs. This is handled in the cast of a presentation of four different diagrams, as is produced throughout the analysis. It also refers to a fifth attachment from the analysis as is supporting the results from the analysis chapter. These attachments are attached at the end of this report.

Conclusion

In the conclusion-chapter I am concluding positively in proportion to the addressed problems presented in chapter 1.3. The conclusion confirms that the two phenomena's in which also is presented in the cover of this study: "valueoriented evolving-techniques" and "valueoriented technology". The choose of terms is by myself. The terms are introduced in chapter 3.1.
