"Du behövs" Fremstillingen av samfunnets utskudd i Klara Wikstens Hjärnan darrar (2016)

Abstract

I denne oppgaven har jeg vist hvordan termen grafisk medisin kan anvendes for å forklare hvordan psykiske lidelser oppleves gjennom tegnestilen til Wiksten, samtidig som termen kan brukes for å vise hvordan man som pårørende kan hjelpe. Hjärnan darrar viser ikke bare pasienterfaring, men også erfaringer for pårørende. På grunn av romanens kollektivistiske handling gir den rom for flere menneskers erfaringer, og viser dermed hvor kompleks psykisk sykdom og arbeidsledighet er. Samtidig har jeg vist hvordan tegneseriemediet rommet en samfunnskritisk dimensjon, der mediet bidrar til å tilgjengeliggjøre komplekse utfordringer. Derfor er mantraet «Du behövs» viktig å belyse, fordi det snakker til både pasient og pårørende, så vel som til de arbeidsledige.

In this thesis I have shown how the term graphic medicine can be used to explain how mental disorders are experienced through Wiksten's drawing style. I have also shown how the term can be used to describe how dependents can support people with mental disorders. Hjärnan darrar shows both the experience of the patient as of the dependent. Due to the novel’s collectivistic plot, we can see how the diverse group of people are portrayed throughout the novel, which shows the complexity of mental illness and unemployment. I have also described the complexity of tools used in comics books and graphic novels, discussing how it offers social criticism, where the medium can contribute to make complex challenges available. The mantra "You are needed" is therefore important to clarify, because it speaks to both the patient and the dependent, as well as to the unemployed.
