dc.description.abstract | Title / theme: Self-care and coping in young people with diabetes.
Purpose: To acquire knowledge in what it is like for young people to live with type 1 diabetes, as well as how nurses can guide the patient to promote their coping with the disease and self-care.
Issue: How can nurses promote self-care and the experience of coping with blood sugar regulation in adolescents with type 1 diabetes?
Method: The thesis is a literature study based on syllabus literature, relevant literature, research, own experiences from practice in a medical pediatric division and theoretical studies in nursing education. Due to the special circumstances caused by Covid-19, I've had to base my literature on what was available at home and online.
Outcome: Three main themes that represent ways nurses can help promote: (1) knowing what challenges young people face, (2) the importance of knowledge and its dissemination, and (3) support and division of responsibilities.
Conclusion: Individually tailored follow-up, good knowledge dissemination and support for both youth and parents are important prerequisites for achieving self-care and coping with blood sugar regulation.
