Redesign av ledsagerbøyle

Abstract

U-GO ledsagerbøyle er et produkt for blinde- og svaksynte, som sammen med en ledsager kan komme seg ut på tur i skog og mark. Ledsagerbøylen gir noe fast å holde i, noe som øker samspillet og tilliten mellom bruker og ledsager.

U-GO Products AS er stiftet av gründer Marianne Hebnes, som har gjennom en lengre periode fremmet ledsagerbøylen som et produkt som skaper tillit, samspill og mestring. I denne prosjektperioden skal dagens ledsagerbøyle redesignes, med fokus på riktig produktsemantikk, brukervennlighet og markedspotensialer for bedriften.

Det har i perioden vært gjennomført en produktutviklingsprosess hvor det gjennom samtaler med synspedagog, spørreundersøkelser, litteraturstudier, messebesøk og ulike visuelle søketeknikker blitt utviklet et konsept som etter beste evne imøtekommer oppdragsgivers kravspesifikasjoner og ønsker. Denne oppgaven viser hvordan resultatene kom frem, og presenterer arbeidet med skisser, mock-ups, tredimensjonale modeller og utseendemodell.

Denne prosessen har resultert i en sammenleggbar ledsagerbøyle med et sporty preg. Den redesignede ledsagerbøylen har blitt utviklet med hensyn til potensiell masseproduksjon og salg, men har fortsatt noen forbedringspunkter før den er klar for markedet. Oppgavens utgangspunkt er brukersentrert design, men med situasjonen rundt koronapandemien 2020, har det ikke vært mulig å gjennomføre tilstrekkelig brukertesting. Oppgaven bærer derfor preg av noe omstilling midtveis i prosjektperioden.

The U-GO companion brace is a product that enables the blind and visually impaired to hike through the wilderness and to navigate mountainous terrain. U-GO provides the user the ability to grasp onto a secure handle and allow their companion to lead them. This product increases the interaction and trust between the user and their companion.

U-GO Products AS was founded by entrepreneur Marianne Hebnes, who continually promotes the U-GO as a product that encourages trust, interaction, and a sense of achievement. This project will redesign the current U-GO companion brace, focusing on the correct product semantics, ease of use and marketing potential for the company.

This project’s product development process included: consulting a Visual Educator, distributing questionnaires, reading industry-based literature, attending trade shows, and conducting various visual search techniques. Once the development process concluded, a concept was developed that best met the client's requirements, specifications and wishes.

This paper details the development process that was carried out which ends with the successful redesign of a folding, sportier, U-GO companion brace. Also included are sketches, mock-ups, three-dimensional models, and an appearance model. The redesigned U-GO companion brace has been developed in terms of potential mass production and sales, but still has areas of improvement before it is ready for the market.

This project was intended to have a user-centered development process, but with the 2020 global COVID-19 pandemic, it was not possible to carry out adequate user testing. The assignment therefore may show some signs of restructuring midway through the project period.
