| dc.description.abstract | Dagens skipsnæring er preget av at mange aktører benytter gammel teknologi og utdaterte digitale løsninger. Odfjell er ingen unntak. Gamle rutiner gjør at selskapet ikke maksimerer sin effektivitet og kapasitetsutnyttelse, sammenlignet med hvilke muligheter en har med moderne teknologi. Shippingbransjen preges av sykliske svingninger, og profittmarginene kan være små. Det kan derfor være hensiktsmessig å se etter løsninger for å øke disse marginene, og dermed gjøre rederidriften mer lønnsom. Ser man til flybransjen for sammenligning ser man at skipsnæringen henger langt etter på den digitale fronten, og det kan tenkes at næringen bør tenke i retning av et digitalt skifte. På bakgrunn av dette ønsker jeg å se på hvordan kjemikalierederiet Odfjell kan bedre sine innkjøp- og logistikkprosesser ved å benytte et skybasert ERP-system. Jeg har i tråd med dette utarbeidet problemstillingen:
«Hvordan kan et skybasert ERP-system bedre Odfjells innkjøp- og logistikkprosesser?»
Denne problemstillingen dannet utgangspunktet for valg av teori og anvendt metode. Basert på innhentet informasjon og teori har jeg analysert og drøftet hvordan Odfjell kan være tjent med å benytte denne type teknologi. Jeg har anvendt en kvalitativ tilnærming der jeg i hovedsak har bygget opp oppgaven rundt intervju, rapporter og relevant litteratur. Jeg har også vært heldig å få være en del av et prosjekt som i skrivende stund pågår på Odfjells hovedkontor i Bergen. Dette har gitt meg mye relevant kunnskap.
På grunnlag av intervju, analyser og annen informasjon er det mye som tyder på at selskapet er moden for implementering av teknologiske og digitale nyvinninger. Jeg tror at dette kan gi en positiv effekt internt da man i større grad vil kunne oppnå økt kapasitetsutnyttelse og samtidig begrense kostnadene knyttet til driften. | |
| dc.description.abstract | Today's shipping industry is characterized by many companies using old technology and outdated digital solutions. Odfjell is no exception. Old routines mean that the company does not maximize its efficiency and capacity utilization, compared to what opportunities one has with modern technology. The shipping industry is characterized by cyclical fluctuations, and the profit margins can be small. Therefore, it may be appropriate to look for solutions to increase these margins, and thus make the shipping operations more profitable. If you look at the aviation industry for comparison, you see that the shipping industry is lagging far behind on the digital front, and it is conceivable that the industry should think in the direction of a digital shift. Against this backdrop, I want to look at how the chemical company Odfjell can improve its procurement and logistics processes by using a cloud-based ERP system. In line with this, I worked out the problem:
"How can a cloud-based ERP system improve Odfjell's procurement and logistics processes?"
This issue formed the starting point for the choice of theory and applied method. Based on the information and theory I have gathered, I have analyzed and discussed how Odfjell can benefit from using this type of technology. I have used a qualitative approach where I have mainly built up the task of interviews, reports and relevant literature. I have also been fortunate to be part of a project that is currently underway at Odfjell's head office in Bergen. This has given me a lot of relevant knowledge.
On the basis of interviews, analyzes and other information, there is much to indicate that the company is ripe for the implementation of technological and digital innovations. I believe that this can have a positive effect internally as it will be possible to achieve greater capacity utilization and at the same time limit the costs associated with operations. | |
