Sammendrag
A wide range of advanced services and applications are being developed day by day. And it?s quite attractive to identify the requirements of these services and applications in terms of QoS performance needs such as bandwidth and real-time operation demands. Optimized delay, delay variation and packet loss performances can be gained by employing circuit switched networks. However, it?s demanding if those performances can be met with packet switched optical networks. The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the requirement of current and possible future demanding applications and services. Moreover, it is required to propose possible optical network technology that is capable of supporting those applications. We analyze the requirements of current and possible future applications and proposed a packet switched optical network technology to support those requirements. Optical technology is employed both as a transport technology and to perform switching functions inside the nodes of the network. We made mathematical analysis to verify that the proposed architecture can support the applications and services.
