Sammendrag
This thesis covers the design and manufacturing of uprights for Revolve NTNU's 2018 Formula Student car, Atmos. Four titanium uprights have been designed using topology optimization, and produced using additive manufacturing with subsequent post-machining. Weighing only 605 gram (front) and 569 gram (rear), a reduction of about 140 gram in total has been achieved.
In addition, a thin-walled design alternative has been created to make a finite element analysis comparison to the topology optimized design. During cornering, the displacement results were quite similar for the two designs, and more work is needed to figure out which design is better.
