Terminalpleie på sykehjem

Abstract

Hensikt: Formålet med studien er å undersøke hvilke erfaringer sykepleiere på sykehjem har med terminalpleie. Ved å belyse tema gjennom et sykepleieperspektiv kan vi få et innblikk i deres arbeidshverdag, og samtidig øke vår forståelse av arbeidet med denne pasientgruppen.

Metode: En systematisk litteraturstudie ble gjennomført for å identifisere, kvalitetssikre og analysere forskning om emnet. Åtte forskningsartikler ble funnet gjennom avanserte systematiske søk i ulike databaser. Seks av artiklene er kvalitative, mens to er kvantitative. Vi benyttet Evans metode for analyse, og har kategorisert relevante funn i forhold til problemstillingen vår.

Resultat: Fem hovedfunn beskriver sykepleiernes erfaring med terminalpleie på sykehjem; kompetansebehov, emosjonell påvirkning, ressursmangel, ivaretakelse av pårørende og kommunikasjon. Sykepleiere ønsker å gi god terminalpleie, men ulike utfordringer innenfor disse områdene gjør dette arbeidet vanskelig.

Konklusjon: Funnene i studien viser at faktorene henger tett sammen og påvirker hverandre. Flere faktorer kan forbedres for å gi optimal terminalpleie og bedre arbeidshverdagen til sykepleierne. Det er ønskelig med mer kompetanse og økte ressurser på sykehjem.

Aim: The purpose of this study is to examine what experiences nurses in nursing homes have with terminal care. By illuminating the theme through a nursing perspective, we can gain an insight into their workday and at the same time increase our understanding of the work with this patient group.

Method: A systematic literature study is used to identify, quality check and analyze research on the subject. Eight research papers were found through advanced systematic searches in various databases. Six of the articles are qualitative, while two are quantitative. We used Evan's method of analysis, and have categorized relevant findings in relation to our problem.

Result: Five main findings describe the nurses' experience with terminal care in nursing homes; competence needs, emotional influence, lack of resources, communication and taking care of relatives. Nurses want to provide good terminal care, but various challenges in these areas make this work difficult.

Conclusion: The findings in the study show that the factors are closely related and affect each other. Several factors can be improved to provide optimal terminal care and work environment for nurses. More expertise and increased resources are desirable in nursing homes.
