rolleforskyvning i familien. Barn utrykker mye behov for informasjon. Viktige tiltak for å
bringer inn i barnets dagligliv.
dc.description.abstract | Aim: The purpose of our thesis is to investigate how children cope with life when their
parent has cancer.
Method: This study program is based on our self-chosen syllabus literature and
research. It was found through a systematic literature research, which was carried out
through databases related to health science and medicine. This literature study consists
of seven qualitative research articles and one quantitative.
Result: Research shows that children are strongly affected by having a parent with
cancer. Many children are experiencing psychosocial reactions as a result of the parent's
diagnosis. Children need substantial support, good information and care to cope with the
parents’ illness. Children usually don´t know how to cope with such situations and often
are feeling left out and alone. Many children distance themselves completely from the ill
parent, which often results in role displacement within the family. Children express a
need for information, require to be well taken care of by parents and healthcare
professionals.
Conclusion: Information adapted to the childs’ age and maturity-level contributes to
optimise the caretaking of the child and the family situation. Sufficient follow-up and
support are important factors in order to cope with the new situations in the daily life of
the child as a result of the parents’ cancer.
