Oppgaven fokuserer
forskningsspørsmålene i detalj.
dc.description.abstract | This term paper is written as a part of our bachelor degree at Trondheim Business School and
our main profile Management Accounting. The assignment focuses on a profitability analysis
of the company Celsa Armeringsstål AS with regards to the years 2013 through 2017. In order
to get a more complete perspective, the profitability analysis has been supplemented with a
strategic analysis. The term paper is based on the accounting figures of the company and
information from Senior Controller Rolf-Arne Hanssen.
Initially, the paper focus on the business in question along with the research questions in
detail. Onwards, theory concerning profitability analysis is presented along with theory
related to financing, solvency and solidity. In the next chapter, we present the research
method and discuss the implications of our choices in terms of validity and reliability. In the
next chapter, the accounting information is analysed and commented, before a strategic
analysis is conducted. After which, a benchmarking analysis is done to compare the
profitability of the company in question to a relevant competitor.
Conclusively, we present a conclusion to our paper. The analysis conducted shows a steady
positive development in solidity, solvency and financial key figures, with 2017 in general
being the peak year. In comparison, development in key figures regarding profitability varied
more, with 2017 still being the best year. The valuations conducted in 2015 have had an
impact on key figures. Futhermore, the compay is considered to have a long-term competitive
advantage, as identified by the SWOT-analysis. This competitive advantage is related to the
accessibility of the product manufactured by the company. With limited competition
bechmarking was challenging. Therefore, benchmarking with foreign producers may be a
more viable option. This however, was made difficult by accessability of the financial
statements of these producers.
