dc.description.abstract | In 2011 a hoard of 48 coins was found in Blerick, buried in soil in a location opposite the city Venlo. Archival research showed that the city changed hands in 1480 as well as in 1481, during the time in which heavy fighting took place. The hoard was probably deposited in 1481, either during the siege in July or in the preceding turbulent period. An analysis of the witpenningen from Guelders dated 1480 found in the hoard led to the discovery of hitherto unpublished variants. These may be related to the appointment of a new mint master | nb_NO |
