Sammendrag
The goal of this master thesis project was to utilize the design methods and strategies we have learned to create video games, and, based on the income these games would generate, found an independent video games studio.
The obstacles and pitfalls encountered by newly founded indie-game studios have changed considerably in recent years. Earlier pioneers often faced technical hurdles, however the proliferation of affordable and powerful out-of-the-box game engines have created a market wherein creativity and novel game design, rather than technical brilliance, often is the kingmaker. Based on this we believe our design education gives us a fair chance to make a name for ourselves in an industry saturated by programmers.
Following an iterative process, based on the familiar lean startup cycle, we have created four game concepts, each currently in various states of completion, in addition to continuing work on a project started before the master thesis. Two of the games have been published, two exists as playable prototypes and the final one is nearing publishing.
