Human depth perception can be described trough a set of depth cues, with binocular parallax being the most important. While a 2D display can show some depth cues, only 3D displays can give binocular parallax. One type of autostereoscopic 3D display is scanning slit 3D displays which consists of a scanning slit device, often called shutter, and a display component. An autostereoscopic 3D effect is made by opening small slits and changing the display s image. This thesis looks into two visual artifacts present on Setred AS. scanning slit 3D display, geometrical distortion and tearing. Both artifacts are thoroughly analyzed and experimented upon. This thesis shows how changing rendering method reduce geometrical distortion to the point where it can be considered completely removed. The new rendering method is called multivideo, and it can be seen as an extension to stereo rendering. Tearing is not directly an 3D aliasing artifact but analysis show how they have a similar cause. Trough experiments this thesis shows how 3D anti-aliasing methods invented for use against 3D aliasing also work against tearing. The cause of tearing and amount of tearing is thoroughly analyzed making the results possible to use as a guideline when considering hardware changes to scanning slit 3D displays. This thesis combines methods against both geometrical distortion and tearing in one package allowing both problems to remedied at once.nb_NO
