In the oil and gas industry in Norway, there is a strong emphasis on the use of results from risk assessment as input to decision making. Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) is extensively used to develop safe design and represent the total risk level for an installation. For operational decisions, the analyses applied tend to be qualitative, focus on specific operations/problems and to be weakly linked to the total risk picture for the installation. In the project described in this paper, a conceptual methodology for establishing risk information to operational decisions is being developed. The starting point is the decisions and the decision process. This forms a basis for understanding what type of information about risk is required. From this, a method for providing risk information has been developed.
