High Order Numerical Simulation of Viscous Compressible Flow in a Simplified Geometry of the Human Upper Airways

This master thesis is part of a project dealing with Obstructive sleep apnea syn-drome (OSAS). Its main goal is to extend an existing 2D code for compress-ible flow into the third dimension and verify it. The code solves compressibleNavier-Stokes equations by a high order finite difference method in parallel. Themessage passing interface (MPI) has been used for parallelization. The resultsare compared with results from the 2D program, grid refinements study is madeand 3D structures are observed in a simulation, that is run with a grid with highresolution on computation cluster Vilje.
