The topic is within the child welfare social program. It deals with foster homes and fostering. The term recognition is discussed and an attempt made to describe and analyze it as a basis for understanding whether foster homes should avoid relocation of foster children. The thesis is "The significance of the term recognition for children and adults in fostering. Is recognition important when considering whether a foster home should continue to exist or not? How can the term be understood by foster parents and children?
The method chosen was interviewing. Nine people, all linked directly or indirectly to
fostering were interviewed a total of six times. All these informants were asked about the term recognition and what they understood by it and thought about it. They were also asked whether they thought recognition was significant in fostering. Recognition as a concept in this thesis is interpreted according to Axel Honneths theory of recognition on three levels; the individual, the legal, and the community level. All the informants had an understanding of one or more of the levels and contributed their thoughts and reflections.
NRK1 s documentary series, (Brennpunkt) «Brustne hjerter» (Broken Hearts)
has, together with literature, been a central source in addition to these informants.
As I see it, after having completed task, there is a clear correlation between recognition on all three levels and how important it is to avoid relocation of foster children. | nb_NO |
