This thesis studies the settlers‘ views of the change of their living place due to the resettlement caused by city‘s redevelopment. The study chose Dadian Town as a case study area, to show readers a different type of resettlement in China. Rather than focusing on studying the resettlement progress, this study pays more attention on how settlers view the changes of their living space, from two main factors, physical dimension and activity dimension. More importantly, with aim to understand the settlers‘ needs for forming their identity of new habitat. Nowadays, as with many stories related to fast urbanization all over the world, China is on the top list. In order to solve the poor urban-rural dual structure system problem in China, policy of ―Construction of Small Towns (CoST)‖ was brought up, and CoST programs develop fast in China. Formal and information resettlement happens in this progress. In the progress of CoST in Dadian Town, government resettled a group of local residents to a new planned plot, and helped them built new community – Xingfu Community. This group of settlers is empowered to modify their new habitat. As an experimental project, much more factors should be improved and completed. However, that project supplies a great chance on studying settlers‘ views of changes of their living place, and their needs for planning a new habitat that identified with. In the case of Xingfu Community‘s settlers, author studies their perspectives of both physical and social activity on their new habitat and memory of former habitat, and understands their needs too. Through a theoretical review of resettlement and place identity, author will make suggestions regarding the methods of planning better settlements for settlers during city redevelopment.nb_NO
