Karpe – Rap i den offentlige debatten

Abstract

Denne avhandlingen diskuterer hvordan Karpe gjennom et utvalg låttekster fanger opp politiske tendenser i et utvalg låttekster og hvordan den offentlige debatten artet seg i ettertid. Etter terrorangrepene 22. juli 2011 ble det avholdt flere minneseremonier for å samle folket under en felles sorgprosess, samt konsolidere den nye nasjonale identiteten, både overfor det norske folket og utlandet. I dette fikk Karpe en rolle som symboler på «nye Norge» grunnet både deres identitet som andregenerasjonsinnvandrere og budskapet om toleranse i låtene de valgte å fremføre. På den andre siden av denne anerkjennelsen står den offentlige debatten der Karpe har fått kritikk ved flere anledninger. I avhandlingen undersøker jeg et utvalg låttekster ut fra deres politiske tidshorisont gjennom hermeneutisk metode, henholdsvis i kontekst av terrorangrepene 22. juli 2011 og den europeiske migrasjonskrisen. Jeg konkluderer med at Karpe fanger opp politiske tendenser fra den politiske tidshorisonten både indirekte gjennom personlige skildringer av sosiale og politiske problemstillinger, samt direkte gjennom tematisering av politiske debatter knyttet til disse problemstillingene. Videre konkluderer jeg at Karpes rolle under konsolideringen av den nye nasjonale identiteten påvirket forventningene til dem, som eskalerte den offentlige debatten.

This thesis discusses how Karpe, through a selection of song lyrics, capture political tendencies and how the public debate unfolded afterward. After the terrorist attacks on the 22nd of July 2011, several memorial ceremonies were held to unite the people in a collective mourning process, as well as to consolidate the new national identity, both for the Norwegian people and abroad. In this, Karpe played a role as symbols of the «new Norway» due to both their identity as second-generation immigrants and the message of tolerance in the songs they chose to perform. On the other side of this recognition stands the public debate where Karpe has faced criticism on several occasions. In this thesis, I examine a selection of song lyrics from their political time horizon using the hermeneutic method, respectively in the context of the terrorist attacks on the 22nd of July 2011, and the European migration crisis. I conclude that Karpe capture political tendencies from the political time horizon both indirectly through personal depictions of social and political issues, as well as directly through the thematization of political debates related to these issues. Furthermore, I conclude that Karpe's role in consolidating the new national identity influenced expectations of them, which escalated the public debate.
