dc.description.abstract | This bachelor’s thesis focuses on mapping the flexibility in the electricity consumption of
grocery stores to achieve lower and more predictable energy costs while protecting against
future price fluctuations in the energy market. By analyzing energy consumption data and
mapping flexibility and potential flexibility measures, various strategies are examined for
how energy consumption can be dynamically adjusted according to fluctuating electricity
prices and demand from the power grid. Using net present value calculations, the most
effective measures for flexibility management are identified. The study reveals significant
potential for shifting energy consumption through the use of battery storage systems and
dynamic control of cooling and heating systems. As a possible outcome, the profitability of
connecting to the reserve market was assessed. The results suggest that a combination of
these measures can lead to energy cost savings, increase the flexibility of the stores, and
improve their ability to adapt to future changes in energy prices. Although the investments
may not prove economically profitable, they provide the stores with significant flexibility
gains. | |
