Musenes gjenoppliving av Mykene - en introduksjon til Iliaden

Abstract

Denne oppgaven har ikke som mål å føre noe spesifikt argument, eller å lede frem til en klart definert og avrundet konklusjon. Jeg begynte heller med den implisitte intensjonen kun å utforske det Homeriske eposet, for så i prosessen å omgjøre det jeg lærte til en sammenhengende og helhetlig introduksjon til selvsamme sang. I grove trekk springer teksten, etter en litt lengre innledning, fra den Mykenske sivilisasjon, gjennom skaldetradisjonen, og ned til selve eposets tematikk samt narrative innhold. Kildene jeg forholder meg til er i hvert fall mangfoldige og solide, om ikke helt fulltallige. Jeg har holdt meg til en forholdsvis lineær og overordnet utvikling av tekstens innhold, og underveis forsøkt meg på et par kjappe dykk ned i mesterverkets essens - særlig grundige kan slike begrensede ekspedisjoner aldri være, derimot; artikkelens omfang er nok allerede litt for ambisiøst.

This dissertation does not aim to support any specific argument, or lead to a clearly defined and conclusive conclusion. I started with the implicit intention of simply exploring the Homeric epic, and through this process, transforming what I learned into a coherent and comprehensive introduction to this song. To summarize, after a somewhat lenghty introduction, the text moves from the Mycenaean civilization, through the poetic tradition, and down to the themes and narrative content of the epic itself. The sources I refer to are at least diverse and reliable, if not entirely exhaustive. I have confied myself to a relatively linear and overarching exploration of the text's content, and along the way attempted a couple of quick forays into the essence of the masterpiece. However, this can never be a thorough examination; the scope of the essay is already a bit too ambitious.
