En ny tarenæring blir til: Hvordan eksisterende næringer har satt fart på taredyrking i Lofoten

Abstract

Taredyrking blir pekt på av forskere for å ha stort potensiale i Norge på grunn av store kystområder og muligheter for utnyttelse av kompetanse og ressurser fra de veletablerte fiskeri-, oppdrett- og offshore-næringene. Næringen står imidlertid overfor en rekke utfordringer innen teknologi, marked og fagmiljø som må løses før næringen kan nå sitt forutsette potensiale. Denne oppgaven tar for seg den relativt korte historien til taredyrkings-næringen i Lofoten, med fokus på hvordan næringen har dratt nytte av regionale lokasjonsfordeler innen fiskeri og oppdrett. Gjennom innovasjons- og stiutvikling-teori forsøker oppgaven å vise hvordan denne nye havbruksnæringen kan benytte eksisterende kunnskap, teknologi og kompetanse til å møte tarenæringens utfordringer.

Kelp farming is pointed out by researchers as having great potential in Norway due to large coastal areas and opportunities for utilizing expertise and resources from the established fishing, farming and offshore industries. However, the industry faces a number of challenges within technology, markets and industrial culture that must be resolved before the industry can reach its expected potential. This thesis deals with the relatively short history of the kelp farming industry in the Lofoten islands in Norway, focusing on how the industry has benefited from localization-advantages from regional fishing- and fish farming-industries. By employing innovation- and path development theories, the thesis attempts to show how this new, Norwegian aquaculture industry may use existing knowledge, technology and expertise to meet the challenges of the kelp industry.
