Å se verden gjennom en linse - Hvordan filmfotografer anvender brennvidde som et virkemiddel i film

Abstract

Denne bacheloroppgaven er en produksjonsstudie av hvordan filmfotografer anvender linser og brennvidde som virkemiddel i film. Problemstillingen vil besvares gjennom analysering og drøfting av forskjellige intervju av profesjonelle filmfotografer hentet fra bøkene Masters of light: Conversations with Contemporary Cinematographers av Dennis Schaefer og Larry Salvato og Conversations with Contemporary Cinematographers: The Eye Behind the Lens av Jaqueline B. Frost. Ved bruk av intervjuene defineres ulike grunner en filmfotograf har til å velge en spesifikk brennvidde eller linse i henhold til det de ønsker å oppnå med filmen. I tillegg vil oppgaven ha en autoetnografisk tilnærming gjennom forfatterens egne tanker og erfaringer som filmfotograf. De vil supplere materialet fra intervjuene gjennom å forklare, drøfte og spille videre på funnene som blir gjort.

This bachelor thesis is a production study of how cinematographers utilize lenses and focal lengths as tools in filmmaking. The research question will be addressed through analysis and discussion of various interviews with professional cinematographers sourced from the books Masters of Light: Conversations with Contemporary Cinematographers by Dennis Schaefer and Larry Salvato and Conversations with Contemporary Cinematographers: The Eye Behind the Lens by Jaqueline B. Frost. By utilizing these interviews, different reasons a cinematographer has for choosing a specific focal length or lens are defined in relation to their desired outcomes for the film. Additionally, the thesis adopts an autoethnographic approach through the author's own reflections and experiences as a cinematographer. This will complement the interview material by explaining, discussing, and elaborating on the findings being done.
