Representasjon av maskulinitet i Dødelig Våpen (Donner 1987)

Abstract

I denne bacheloroppgaven vil jeg undersøke problemstillingen: representasjon av maskulinitet i filmen Dødelig Våpen (Donner 1987). Jeg vil gjøre dette ved å analysere filmen, og se hvordan den passer inn i «Buddy Cop» sjangeren. Jeg skal også analysere et utvalg scener der jeg ser på hvordan karakteren Martin Riggs blir fremstilt. Jeg vil også utforske samspillet mellom Martin Riggs og karakteren Roger Murtaugh. Jeg vil basere analysen av Riggs sin fremstilling av maskulinitet ved å bruke Raewyn Connells teori om hegemonisk maskulinitet. Jeg bruker også faglitteratur som fokuserer på actionfilmen på 80-tallet, inkludert arbeid av blant annet Jeffrey A. Brown og Susan Jeffords.

In this bachelor’s thesis, I will examine the representation of masculinity in the film Lethal Weapon (Donner, 1987). I will do this by analysing the film and seeing how it fits into the ‘Buddy Cop’ genre. I will also analyse a selection of scenes to observe how the character Martin Riggs is portrayed. Additionally, I will explore the interaction between Martin Riggs and the character Roger Murtaugh. I will base the analysis of Riggs’ portrayal of masculinity on Raewyn Connell’s theory of hegemonic masculinity. I will also use literature that focuses on action films of the '80s, including work by Jeffrey A. Brown and Susan Jeffords.
