Grunnlovsutkast og bøndenes politiske utvikling frem mot 1814

Abstract

Oppgaven "Grunnlovsutkast og bøndenes politiske utvikling frem mot 1814" tar for seg norske bøndenes politiske utvikling og handlingsrom igjennom 1700- og 1800-tallet og på vei inn i grunnlovsforsamlingen på Eidsvoll i 1814. Her belyses blant annet samspillet mellom bønder og embetsmenn, politiske arenaer, påvirkningsmåter og sosiale skiller innad i bondesamfunnet. Videre ser oppgaven på bondeeliten som ledet den politiske kulturen og hvordan bonderepresentanter ble inkludert i lokalstyre på vei mot 1800-tallet. Deretter beveger oppgaven seg mot grunnlovforsamlingen og bøndenes rolle som representanter og forfattere av grunnlovsutkast. Oppgaven tar i bruk denne eksisterende litteraturen om bondestandens politiske kultur i dette tidsrommet som et bakteppe for analyse av fire utvalgte grunnlovsutkast skrevet av bønder til grunnlovsforsamlingen på Eidsvoll. Tematikk om representasjon, eiendom, frihet og rettigheter blir ført på tvers av disse og argumentasjonen og språk rundt disse temaene blir belyst og sammenlignet for finne svar på hvilke likheter og forskjeller det var innad i den politiske kulturen. Deretter trekkes utkast med opprinnelse utenfra bondestanden inn for å belyse hvilke temaer som sammenfaller med resten av samfunnet.

The paper "Constitutional proposals and farmers political evolution towards 1814" aims to highlight the norwegian farmers political evolution and room for action throughout 18th and 19th century and into the constitutional assembly of Eidsvoll in 1814. Themes highlighted in this period are the interaction between farmers and state officials, the political arenas, ways of influence and the social differences inside the farmers society. Moving on the paper tackles the farming elites that lead their political culture and how their representatives where gradually introduced to local governing in the lead up to the 19th century. Following this the paper moves to the constitutional assembly and the farmers roles as both representatives and authors of constitutional proposals. The paper uses existing literature about the farmers political culture to paint a backdrop for the analyses of four chosen proposals written by farmers for the constitutional assembly at Eidsvoll. Themes of representation, property, freedom and rights are evident in all of these and the argumentation and language used is highlighted and compared to find answers to what similarities and differences there existed within the political culture of the farming communities. Following this, the paper introduces constitutional proposals form other sources outside of this community to highlight which themes coincide with the rest of society.
