This bachelor thesis is based on the research question: How do child welfare workers describe meetings with ethnic minority families? The focus of the assignment is on challenges related to language, communication, and cultural sensitivity. Theory and scientific research have been used to approach and shed light on the research question. The research is up-to-date and recent to ensure the best possible accuracy and quality of the subject matter. Here, it is highlighted how communication, interpreters, cultural sensitivity, and the professional role have something to say for the child welfare services work together with minority families. The discussion paints a picture of how the lack of communication and common understanding will affect the relationship, interaction and trust between child welfare workers and minority families. It is crucial that the child protection services arrange for meetings and conversations with minority families to be of high quality and to ensure that they are understood, and that important information is conveyed. At the same time, as a child welfare worker, you are aware of your own professional role, and acknowledge the importance of culture and cultural sensitivity. It is important that child welfare workers are aware of cultural differences, and how it is only a part of the overall understanding of the family's situation, as well as what other factors is important to consider.
