Abstract

Sammendrag

Formålet med studien: Undersøke hvilke kommunikasjonsutfordringer barn med autismespekterforstyrrelse kan ha i skolemiljøet. Studien tar for seg barn som er elever ved barneskole.

Problemstilling: “Hvilke utfordringer kan barn med autismespekterforstyrrelse ha med kommunikasjon i skolemiljøet?”

Metode: Kvalitativ studie hvor tre fagpersoner og en forelder ble intervjuet ved bruk av semistrukturerte intervju. Datamaterialet ble analysert ved bruk av systematisk tekstkondensering.

Resultat: I denne intervjustudien ble funnene delt inn i tre hovedkategorier: 1. Kommunikasjon 2. Manglende fleksibilitet 3. Støy fra omgivelsene

Oppsummering: Barn med autismespekterforstyrrelse i skolemiljø har stor variasjon i kommunikasjonsutfordringer. Utfordringer som gikk igjen ved både teori og resultat var behov for støtte i kommunikasjon ved forsinket/manglende språkutvikling og at kommunikasjonsutfordringene påvirker andre aspekter av skolehverdagen. I samhandling med andre ser en utfordringer knyttet til den sosiale kommunikasjonen, hvor manglende mentalisering, nedsatte eksekutive funksjoner og repetitiv og ønsket atferd påvirker kommunikasjonen til barnet i skolehverdagen.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: To investigate the communication challenges that children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) may face in the school environment. The study focuses on the children who are students at primary school.

Research question: "What challenges can children with Autism Spectrum Disorder face in the school environment regarding communication?"

Method: Qualitative study involving interviews with three professionals and one parent, using semi-structured interviews. The data were analyzed using systematic text condension.

Results: In this interview study, the findings were divided into three main categories: 1. Communication 2. Lack of flexibility 3. Environmental noise

Conclusion: Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder in the school environment exhibit a wide range of communication challenges. Challenges commonly observed in both theory and results include the need for support in communication due to delayed/lack of language development, and how communication challenges affect other aspects of school life. Interactions with others reveal challenges related to social communication, where deficits in mentalizing, impaired executive functions, and repetetive and desired behaviors affect the childrens communication in the school environment.
