Electrification and alternative fuels with low carbon intensity are coming together to shape the future sustainable marine transport through integrated port energy systems. In this paper, a generic economic modeling approach is proposed to be used for the preliminary system design and sizing of an integrated port energy system. The proposed model includes shore power and port energy storage system (ESS) as well as alternative fuels to cover various possible scenarios for a green port. The outcomes of the economic model are capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operational expenses (OPEX). Based on the calculated costs, a preliminary system design can be established such as the rating of the power sources and sizing of the ESS. In the next step, the economic model is used for designing a simple energy management system (EMS) that generates instantaneous power set-points for the power sources. Finally, the model can be used for system optimization, though in this case, the optimization problem is a combination of optimal sizing and optimal management.en_US
