Institusjonsarbeid med reguleringsvansker hos barn utsatt for seksuelle overgrep

Abstract

Temaet for denne oppgaven er institusjonens arbeid med reguleringsvansker og problemstillingen er” Hvordan kan institusjon støtte opp om utviklingen mot bedre reguleringsferdigheter til barn som har vært utsatt for seksuelle overgrep i en omsorgssvikt kontekst?”. Det beskrives noen juridiske rammer som er sentralt for barnevernsarbeid og da hovedsakelig institusjonens arbeid. Videre tar oppgaven utgangspunkt i seksuelle overgrep som et utviklingstraume, og traumebevisst omsorg er lagt til grunn som forståelsesramme i institusjonens arbeid. Institusjoner jobber miljøterapeutisk og det finnes en rekke miljøfaktorer de kan benytte seg av. I denne oppgaven er miljøfaktorene de ansatte og aktivitetene fokus for drøfting. Reguleringsvanskene hos barna forstås ut fra traumers påvirkning på hjernen, utvikling av selvregulering og begreper som toleransevinduet og indre arbeidsmodeller. Dette benyttes for å drøfte hvorfor de ansattes samregulering er kan bidra til bedre reguleringsferdigheter hos disse barna. Det drøftes også hvorfor institusjonen kan ha nytte av å anvende grunnpilarene i traumebevisst omsorg i dette arbeidet. Aktiviteter er en sentral del av institusjonens hverdag, og oppgaven tar for seg hvordan aktiviteter, sett i lys av begrepene mestring og kompetanse fra den salutogene modellen, kan bidra til å øke reguleringsferdighetene hos barna. I arbeidet med disse sårbare barna vil etikk alltid spille en rolle, og oppgaven tar for seg noen få etiske utfordringer.

The theme of this bachelor thesis is the work of an institution with regulation difficulties, and the research question is” How can an institution support the development of regulation skills among children who are victims of sexual abuse in a context of child neglect?”. This thesis describes some legal frames that are essential for the work with children services, and mainly for the institutions. Furthermore, the thesis considers sexual abuse as development trauma, and trauma-informed care as the foundation of understanding in the work of institutions. Environmental therapy is essential in institutions and there is a lot of different environmental factors that can be used. The focus of discussion in this thesis is the staff and activities. The regulation difficulties amongst the children is understood from the effects trauma has on the brain and the development of self-regulation, and terms like the window of tolerance and internal working model are essential. This is used in the discussion of how the staffs co-regulation can help improve the regulation skills amongst the children. It is also discussed why the institution can benefit from the use of some of the key pillars in trauma-informed care. Activities are an important part of the everyday life in institutions, and the thesis uses the terms accomplishment and competence to discuss how activities can help the development of children’s regulation skills. When working with vulnerable children, ethics always plays an important part, and a few ethical challenges are mentioned.
