dc.description.abstract | This thesis focuses on developing and validating a Hyperspectral Imager (HSI) payload for the second generation of the Hyperspectral Smallsat for Ocean Observation (HYPSO) CubeSat. The first generation, HYPSO-1, was launched successfully in January 2022 and is currently in operation, acquiring hyperspectral images from space. The primary goal of the HYPSO project is to advance our understanding of algae blooms by employing the HSI from airborne and spaceborne platforms.
The Engineering Qualification Model (EQM) of the HSI payload, developed in the autumn of 2023, has undergone rigorous physical testing campaigns, which it passed. However, the shock and vibration tests identified the HSI detector as the most vulnerable part of the design.
Further is the transition from the EQM to the Flight Model (FM), which involves repositioning the star tracker and RGB lens, outlined. A simple eigenfrequency analysis of the HSI platform was conducted, and it was found that the redesign didn't cause any significant problems structurally. The assembly of the HSI FM payload is complete, and preliminary calibration tests of the optical system show that the payload passes the set requirements.
