Sammendrag
Roads are one of the major causes of biodiversity loss. It is estimated that millions of animals die annually due to vehicle collisions. Furthermore, roads can induce habitat fragmentation, pollution, disturbance, and barriers for animal movements. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a widely applied instrument to assess environmental impacts of a product or service, while current impact pathways do not address the biodiversity impacts of roads on wildlife. Based on road negative impacts on ecology background, the goal of this master thesis uses LCA and Life Cycle Impact Assessment (LCIA) method to develop a method to quantify the impacts of habitat loss caused by roads. This master thesis developed method to calculate the regional Potentially Disappeared Fraction (PDF) of species and regional characterization factor caused by different type of roads. Further models must be developed to calculate global PDF and characterization factor to make them comparable and be discussed in global level.
