The topic I want to address in my bachelor`s thesis is the disclosure of incest and sexual abuse on children, with the following research question: how can the children's conversations contribute to earlier detection of incest and sexual abuse on children? Incest has long been a taboo subject within child welfare services, and it has been revealed that the employees lack sufficient knowledge or expertise to handle such cases. Children who have experienced sexual abuse and incest often do not disclose these experiences until many years after the abuse has occurred, even though multiple authorities have been involved. Child welfare services have a unique opportunity to uncover incest and abuse through their conversations with children. Therefore, I want to shed light on how children's conversations can contribute to earlier detection of incest and sexual abuse through a review of the literature. Additionally, I aim to discuss why child conversations are an important tool for both children and child welfare services.
